Our Final Project

Values in Scouting from Alex Giddings on Vimeo.

Our final project was about the family values in the Boy Scouts of America. It's a little longer than most, but it was one of my favorite projects. I will sorely miss my group. Enjoy!

I will upload some photos from it later. My partners were excellent sources of inspiration. Thanks for all the hard work guys!

Alex Giddings and Jon Steffens, thanks for adopting me into your photo family. I will always remember our crazy times.

Painting with Light

Painting with light ended up being a fun assignment. We had so many different ideas, so it took a lot of time and effort, but I think it was worth it. From dresses of light to the Absinthe bottle and accessories, we were all over the board.

My teammates: Jonathan Hinderliter, Pinar Istek, Sarah Midgorden and Allison Ziemba made this more fun than I originally thought it would be.

Multiple Flash

Multiple Flash was actually easier than I expected. Once it is setup properly, it's hard to mess up. Unless your synch cord falls out... =/

However, apparently, I can't burn CDs, because I added the wrong edit of the final high resolution select to the folder. I cropped one of them to see how it would look, but I ended up deciding it looked better uncropped. So, I now know I need to slow down with my cd burning. I had the right one the lab computer, but I didn't add it to the selects folder.

dba_andea (Audio Slideshow Research)

http://mediastorm.com/0024.htm

For this assignment, we had to look around the web and try and find an audio slideshow that we thought was well done or needed work. Intended Consequences, by Jonathan Torgovnik, is about Rwandan women who experienced the horrors of the 1994 genocide in their country. I feel like this one is well done. It is tragic, but also, uplifting to see how far these women have come since that horrible 100 day period, 16 years ago.

They had to watch family members be butchered in front of them, and then have another crime inflicted upon them. That crime is rape. Most of the women feel alone and unwanted. They feel as if they've lost their dignity and self-respect. Some even cannot bring themselves to love the children that is the product of that rape. It is a little long, but I think it is a good project. The music, photographs, interviews, graphics and video all flow together perfectly.

FIll and Balance

Fill and Balance wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, but it's definitely a little more complicated to find the angles and the best way to do things.

Coca-Cola Zero representative Bryan Bennion records how much product has been given away at Lowry Mall on MU's campus Monday afternoon. Bennion and his business partner, Joel Derrigo, are in the midst of a 10-month tour with Coca-Cola Zero.

Color Correction

Ohhh color correction... It wasn't as difficult as single flash was for me, but it was still a challenge. I am now looking at light differently, and I plan on getting more practice with all the new techniques over break because I know I still need work.

Single Flash will bring me down

Single flash was one of the hardest assignments I have ever done. All things considered, I think I did an okay job on this assignment. It was much more demanding and harder to get used to, but with practice, I will get the hang of it.

MU students Antria Washington, Chantell Smith, Alana Young and Sierra Watson gathered together March 5 to promote unity of the student body at the Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center anti-hate rally at Jesse Hall. Following the "Cotton Ball incident", students from different groups, such as the Legion of Black Collegians and Missouri Students Association, came together to promote change on campus.

MU juniors Jill Frasher and Gwen Daniels study for their music history midterm in the Reynolds Journalism Institute Tuesday night. Frasher and Daniels have been friends since they met at Summer Welcome before their freshman year at Mizzou.

I had some more dynamic pictures of Jill and Gwen, but they either had white balance problems, the flash didn't work right, or didn't seem to work as well as I thought. I know I need to get out of my Mizzou bubble and that's what I am planning to do this weekend for the color correction assignment.
